It looks like AT&T has more changes for subscribers right around the corner. The company has announced several rate and deductible changes to its protection coverage that go into effect on March 1st. These increases are coming right on the heels of a rate hike for smartphone subscribers who just had their grandfathered data rates unlocked and raised. You may remember this announcement from our earlier blog.
This time, we are looking at a $1 increase in the monthly premiums for subscribers enrolled in Mobile Insurance (MI) or the Monthly Protection Pack (MPP). This increase is per mobile number enrolled. So although $1 may seem like a bargain when one goes to the dollar store, it isn’t when you are looking at a recurring monthly bill. For one mobile number, it is not too alarming at $12 a year, but for enterprises with 100 mobile numbers, we’re now looking at a $1,200 annual increase. Cha-ching! Those numbers can register a significant change to your bottom line.
In addition to the monthly increase to the plans, AT&T has sandwiched its existing deductibles of $20, $125, and $199 with two new tiers of $25 at the bottom and $299 at the top. These are being added to the MI, MPP, and the Multi-Device Protection Pack (MDPP). The deductible for laptop replacement marks the largest increase, jumping a whopping $100 from $199 to $299. Their five deductible tiers are based on device types, and the company points out that when claims are made, the deductibles are non-refundable.
