March Madness: Heads up for 5 Quick Ways to Curb Data Madness!

According to Fortune Magazine, we know that the average worker will spend Six Work Hours (yes, 6!) Watching March Madness

We all love to cheer on our favorite college basketball teams in March. Check out the facts below to see the stats on March Madness corporate data usage.

Fun Facts on Corporate Device Usage During March Madness: According to AppDeveloper Magazine:

Compared to the month prior, that the number of employee devices connecting to the websites increased 211%, while the number of devices utilizing the apps increased 126% for the sports apps of NCAA March Madness Live, ESPN, CBS Sports and Yahoo Sports. Lost productivity? perhaps………
IMPORTANT NOTE: All this increased activity was on corporate devices
Teachable moment? Watch for potential overages and monitor high data usage, especially this month

Indeed, one of our Clients mentioned that every year their network was brought to its knees during March Madness due to all the employee streaming.

Here’s a few thoughts on how to manage the expense:

Set up billing alerts for high data usage in your carrier portal. Check out our blog to provide you with some details here
Let users know to connect to Wifi Networks whenever possible, especially if streaming
Let users know you will be monitoring their bills and checking data usage. While this doesn’t mean you need to be accused of police brutality, it does mean users should be aware of their usage and what it could be costing the company.
Send Text Alerts to users to alert users of high usage and what they can do instead of using their wireless data network. See additional information on that here
Educate the users: let them know if they are streaming 2 hours of a game that is approximately 1 to 1.5 GBs of usage. If their single data plan is 2GB for the entire month, they will need to reduce usage for the rest of the month in order not to exceed their own allowance. Data usage guidelines can be found here

We are all grateful we have First World problems — like when is my new iPhone X arriving? 🙂

All About You, DH

“All about you DH”…..this is one of my very favorite and most often used expressions — needed to be said in a low voice (like Yogi Bear “Heey Boo Boo” — allaboutyouDH) with the emphais on the DH.

So first, what is DH? Duck Head, of course. Or you can substitute your own D word but Duck is the unofficial term, and i am sticking to it.

Of course you have heard this expression before, but the way it became burned into my mind initiated as a voice mail from my sister. She calls one day and is leaving a voice mail. All of a sudden silence and then…..”all about you DH”. In this case the D was not duck, but we’ll leave it at that.

A moment later she realizes she was still talking on my voice mail and I can hear this register to her with a large silently audible “whoops!” Then….loud guffawing snorting laughter when she realizes what she has just said to me but not directly meant for me (this time anyway).

She laughed for the remainder of the full 2 minute message limit.

The backstory is that she was actually driving while she left this message for me and at that exact moment, a guy had pulled in front of her cutting her off and she responded as any normal driver might except she had an indirect voice mail participant.

It is one of my most favorite phrases because it provides hats off to those who are so tied up in what seems to be their latest narcissistic rage of being “all about yourself”. We try very hard at BP to make our services “all about you — our clients” in the best possible way. But once in awhile everyone needs a little “All about you DH” (if only in our heads) for those are “All About Me”.

We love this expression and hope to give you all a chance to protect yourself from the DH’s of life and to give yourself a moment of humor in dealing with them.

Because we are …still protecting your rights against DHs — especially the wireless ones……and especially for dana this week……..
